Who We Are

Serving Clients. Preserving Cashiers.

When the late A. William McKee founded McKee Properties in 1977, his vision was to help other people discover and create the lifestyles they envision in the Cashiers area. For nearly half a century, we have evolved to meet the changing real estate market; yet, we remain firmly grounded in our founding philosophy:

To meet the unique needs and goals of each client while preserving what makes the Cashiers area special.

The McKee legacy

The McKee Family’s roots in Western North Carolina extend back to the 19th Century. The family’s legacy began in the mid-1800s when William Allen Dills founded the town of Dillsboro in north Jackson County. His daughter, Gertrude Dills McKee, not only became North Carolina’s first female state senator, but with her husband E. Lyndon McKee, Sr. created the venerable High Hampton Inn on approximately 2,400 acres, sparking a legacy of distinct real estate development in the area.

An agreement with his heirs allowed Lyndon McKee’s grandchildren, A. William McKee and Ann McKee Austin, to acquire a portion of the property. So, in the mid-1980s, the siblings converted 800 acres of the original High Hampton estate to develop the world-renowned Wade Hampton Golf Club.

After A. William McKee passed away in 2014, McKee Properties’ ownership transitioned to four partners: Steve Hodge, Beth Townsend, Liz Harris and Ann McKee Austin, all of whom have a longtime affiliation with the company and abiding love for Cashiers.
