Cullasaja Club

Living the Highlands Life

At an elevation of 4,200 feet, The Cullasaja Club is a private club community in Highlands that offers cool summers and an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course. Situated between the town of Highlands and famous Whiteside Mountain adjacent to the Nantahala National Forest, its architectural style emphasizes rustic elegance.

Created by Arvida Corporation in 1987 as a second home escape from hot summer climates to the cool mountain breezes, Cullasaja Club became a private club in 2000 with membership by invitation only. With less than 300 residences, the community is now complete.

A River Runs Through It

The spectacular Cullasaja River runs for two miles through the community, with the 27-acre Ravenel Lake at its headwaters, stocked with trout.

The community features mountaintop, lakefront and golf view homes and private villas.

Mountain Golf

Golf legend Arnold Palmer designed the par-72 championship golf course, making many personal visits to create his mountain masterpiece. It features undulating greens, white sand bunkers, hardwood-lined fairways and multiple tees to challenge the best golfers while also encouraging beginners.

Weather permitting, the course is open 11 months a year. One of its golfing traditions is a twilight golf event followed by a cocktail reception and special dinner at the Clubhouse. Other highlights include Women’s Golf Association events as well as the Mixed Member-Guest, Men’s Invitational and the Member-Member events.

The Club and Amenities

The renovated 24,000 square foot Mountain Lodge Clubhouse plays host to a variety of social events and activities, including Wine Dinners that have become members’ favorites.

In addition to The Lodge and golf course, other amenities include:

  • A Croquet Play program and “Golf Croquet” on three beautiful lawns.
  • A heated junior-Olympic swimming pool with a cafe, adjacent to an elaborate Treetop Trail Playground for kids.
